Cuter version of my Sylveon Fairy
(Source: musewhimsy.deviantart.com)

Tired. Playing “Don’t Starve”.
Theory: The Pokemon Sylveon’s name comes from ‘sylvan’, a spirit similar to a nymph
Art is a combination of these influences.

Character drawings all finished~
I get to be a fairy magical girl and I LOVE it!

It is thought that Corpse Candles only appeared in the Glamorgan and Gwent areas of Wales. These Corpse Candles would appear in various shapes, sizes and colours depending on the age, size and social status of the person whose death it is predicting.

I like the tv show Once Upon a Time, but… I’m apparently not the only one that finds… “fault” with the character the Blue Fairy. So this is a projection of my desire for the character in the future.
I imagine the fairy species to be more like the angels in Mark Twain’s “Mysterious Stranger.” Or for a more modern reference, Kyubey from Puella Magi Madoka Magica. They… “help,” but they are so far above our comprehension of reality, their actions can seem cold or down right cruel. Even if they consider themselves to be “kind”.
Instead of modifying the Blue Fairy, I created my own version. That way I could give the outfit more focus (less floral jellyfish), and be my own personal representation of the fairy character. My fairy is to be played by Bernadette Peters. Her outfit is based on the costume she wore in Into the Woods because that play is awesome, and Peters is wonderful in her role (per usual). I love, and found a lot of inspiration, from her song “Last Midnight” in the play.

Happy International Fairy Day!
Today we have Princess Niamh from Brian Froud’s animated special Faeries. I had to post her on today because I love Brian Froud’s work. His art, and work with the Jim Henson Company, have always moved me. Even as a little kid. (It’s the reason why I proudly say Labyrinth is my favorite movie.)
I recently found this animated special. Though some of it had to be simplified for animation purposes, his style does shine through. And my being a storyteller nerd, I got all warm and fuzzy when he referenced different myths.
Go check this out as well as his other works!
If you are still unconvinced- the antagonist in the animated version is voiced by Disney’s Captain Hook! Still not? He supposedly worked on the 2003 movie Peter Pan, which featured Jason Isaacs! Yeeeah!

Today we have Crysta from the movie Ferngully. I was a fan of the movie as a little kid. Though as I got older, I realized it’s suppose to have taken place in an actual rainforest outside Mt. Warning…
(…Nu reference history/culture, movie? Not even a reference to Northern Mimi relatives?)
Per usual, went on research spree… New interpretation.

Today we have our very own “Fairy Goth-Mother” from the Alphabet Quartet, N is for Nevermore Nevermore Land!
I’m super excited about finally getting to share this one~!
I have to confess she’s now more… based off the original story because since the story was published, my version of her continued to evolve. But I still love my now “Perky Fairy Goth-Mother,” and seriously- go check out Podcastle and her sister sites, Pseudopod and EscapePod! I’ve been listening to them for years and I continue to love them and be inspired by their amazing stories.

Today we have a “Wicked Fairy.” I was watching some of the old Rocky and Bullwinkle’s Fractured Fairytales. Their Sleeping Beauty episode consisted of a scam artist working with the evil fairy.
The fairy was wearing tennis shoes that made me think of the knee high ones. And of course my first reaction was, “Must make Hot Topic Fairy!”
Yeah. Sillyness is silly.

Today we have Zyanya dressed as the Evil (13th) fairy from Sleeping Beauty. I was inspired to dress our muses as Sleeping Beauty characters after listening to Groovelily’s “Uninvited” from their Sleeping Beauty Wakes.
I love their work, especially Striking 12. So how I could I not be inspired to draw from this song?
The dress consists of lots of dusty lavender, roses, and spiderwebs.
